Along with some of steadfast supporters, The MaripoSA Difference was very busy since we last saw you in October at our annual fundraiser!
Our donors helped us “play Santa” to some children, teens, and young adults — all apart of the Texas Foster Care System. Why was this Christmas gifting so important and how does it fit with MaripoSA’s mission? We give with the hope of being a small part of helping to build these young kids and teens up. They need to know that they’re not alone and they have a community of people who love them and value their lives.
Through the month of November, The MaripoSA Difference collaborated with these ladies to check off the Christmas list of St. PJ’s Children’s Home! St. PJ’s is a licensed residential home for foster children operated under the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
We were able to purchase gifts for 94 children at St. PJ’s. We offered them their choice of an MP3 player, Legos, a nice watch, or tennis shoes as their gift. St. PJ’s provided their favorite color and wish so we were able to make their gift extra, extra special! Several volunteers donated their time and worked together to write each child a personalized Christmas card with their name on it along with a Christmas blessing. This was so fulfilling to our volunteers.
Thank you, to all of you who donated of your time at such a busy time of year.
Another kind and generous couple in the community, who has supported the MaripoSA Difference since its inception, donated $20,000 to purchase $100 gift cards for 200 youth who have aged out of the foster care system.
The youth are part of THRU Project, a San Antonio nonprofit that bridges the gap between the foster care system and adulthood. THRU Project programs include a volunteer mentor for every youth, affordable housing, life skills, cell phones, bus passes, and employment assistance.
The MaripoSA Difference volunteers wrote out 200 Christmas cards for each of them and they were distributed before Christmas so these youth could go shopping and check off their own Christmas lists!
